Rhearsals are moving along!

If you don’t already know, rehearsals for “The Wizard of Oz”  are well under way and showing us how good this show will be by the time the curtain comes up! Today’s rehearsal  was a full run through of Act 1 and I must say, things are looking great. There is still a lot to do, but the cast is hard at work to make this show a world-class performance! I assure you that even though there are a couple of corny jokes here and there, this show will bring the house down with big laughs and applause! This year’s cast is fantastic portraying this timeless classic, and for the fans of Oz, rest assured we will not let you down!

Check out a short video of our first day of the Jitterbug dance, they had just learned a few parts.  This dance is going to be amazing thanks to student choreographer Taylor!

Help us raise our needed funds!

As you may know, all of our shows’ fundraising is completely up to the students!

Our students are completely committed to this program and they have worked hard to make it successful. However, it has been hard raising the funds for The Wizard of Oz. With all of the technical needs of this show it is proposing many financial challenges.

We are well into rehearsals and it is showing great potential. However, without the proper funds, this show will not happen. So this is why we are asking you to show support and help keep our dream alive.  Every little bit helps!!!  Thank you! –

We are going back to the classics!

April 24-26 2015

We are so excited to announce our spring show!

                                    April 24-26 2015

Please join us April 24th-26th and follow the yellow brick road to this classic and beloved musical!

Like so many girls her age, little Dorothy Gale of Kansas dreams of what lies over the rainbow. One day a twister hits her farm and carries her away over the rainbow to another world. Come join Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tinman, the Cowardly Lion and Toto as they travel the universe of Dorothy’s imagination.

The include songs are Over The Rainbow, Munchkinland (Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead), If I Only Had A Brain, If I Only Had A Heart, If I Only Had The Nerve , We’re Off To See The Wizard (Follow The Yellow Brick Road), The Jitterbug, and The Merry Old Land of Oz, Poppies and If I Were King Of The Forest.

The M.I.H.S theatre arts department will be producing a more technically complex production and uses as much of the aura of the film as is possible to create in a modern theatre. It is an adaption for live stage performance, even while it strives to look and sound just like the famous film, in telling the story. You can bet audiences will be treated to a wonderful night of entertainment, and even a flying monkey :)

Mark your calendars- April 24th-26th, and check back often to see updates and blog posts on how rehearsals are coming along.

Auditions for 12 Angry Men/ Jurors

Auditions for the very serious and dramatic show,

Twelve_Angry_Men_LG Sept. 18th,

After school in the auditorium

You do not have to be in Mrs. Dupery’s classes to try out!

Please research and read the show before you come for the audition, it will be cold readings.  If you are cast be ready to work hard and long on this show. We will analyze everything in the script to create the best possible understanding of the given material for our audiences and ourselves. It is our duty to do this piece with integrity, justice and above all, with pride.

12 Angry Jurors Character Descriptions

DIRECTOR’S NOTE: While this adaptation is written in the masculine, I do not plan to make choices as to which characters are to be played by men and which by women until casting after auditions. Until that time all roles are open to all people.

FOREMAN: He is a small, petty man who is impressed with the authority he has and handles himself quite formally. He’s not overly bright, but dogged.

2nd JUROR: He’s a meek, hesitant man who finds it difficult to speak his own thoughts for fear of being shouted down by the more powerful personalities in the room.

3rd JUROR: He is a very strong, very forceful, extremely opinionated man, intolerant of opinions other than his own; at the same time a deeply wounded man who is tries to hide his pain behind a loud voice.

4th JUROR: He seems to be a man of wealth and position and a practiced speaker who presents himself well at all times. His only concern if with the facts of the case and is often the voice of reason and logic when fights break out amongst the others.

5th JUROR: A younger man from the slums who identifies with the young man on trial more then he would like to admit.

6th JUROR: An honest man who comes upon his decisions slowly and carefully. A blue-collar worker who states his opinions honestly and bluntly.

7th JUROR: A loud, flashy, glad-handed salesman who has more important things to do then to sit in a jury. Quick to temper and equally quick to form opinions on things about which he knows nothing.

8th JUROR: A quiet, thoughtful, gentleman. A man who sees all sides of every question and constantly seeks the truth. He is a man of strength tempered with compassion. Above all, he is a man who wants justice to be done and will fight to see that it is.

9th JUROR: An old man. Gentle, mild, and long since defeated by life. He recognized himself for what he his and tries to be the voice of experience and wisdom in the room.

10th JUROR: A bully. He is an angry, bitter man who antagonizes almost at sight.

11th JUROR: An immigrant, most likely from Europe. He speaks with an accent and is a humble, quite man. He is very polite and clam, and believes very strongly in the American ideal and in the Justice system.

12th JUROR: A slick, bright advertising man who tries to do the right thing, but is used to being overwhelmed by people with louder, brighter ideas.”

Guard- A small role, walks in on the scene a few times, has a very limited amount of lines.

Proud to announce our first show of the 2014-2015 season!

Welcome to the 2014-2015 MIHS Theatre Arts Season

Opening November 21st-23rd.

November 21st and 22nd  at 7:00 PM

November 23rd at 2:00 PM

This fall, the MIHS Theatre Arts program will be tackling one of the most serious and dramatic pieces of it’s time- Twelve Angry Men/ Jurors.

At the beginning of Twelve Angry Men by Reginald Rose, the jury has just finished listening to six days of trial proceedings. A nineteen-year old man is on trial for the murder of his father. The defendant has a criminal record (and a lot of circumstantial evidence piled against him). The defendant, if found guilty, would receive a mandatory death penalty.

The jury is sent to a hot, crowded room to deliberate. Before any formal discussion, they cast a vote. Eleven of the jurors vote “guilty.” Only one juror votes “not guilty.” That juror, who is known in the script as Juror #8 is the protagonist of the play. As the tempers flare and the arguments begin, the audience learns about each member of the jury.  Will the justice system prevail, is the young man really guilty, or is there even a hint of doubt in his innocence, and how much does a person’s own feelings and past really play into the conviction of another human being? All of these questions will be answered in M.I.H.S’ production of 12 Angry Jurors.

Our Spring Musical is still T.B.A, but we do know that it will be performed on April 24th-26th, Stay tuned to see what we decide!!

Help us reach our goal! – gofundme

As you may know all of our shows’ fundraising is completely up to the students!  Our students are completely committed to this program and have worked hard to make it successful while they pursue their dreams in theatre. However, this year has been hard and raising the funds for this show is proposing many challenges. We are well into rehearsals, but without the proper funds this show will not happen, which would disappoint many dedicated students. We are asking you to show support and keep this dream alive, every little bit helps.  Thank you! – From the MIHS Drama Department

Diamond In The Rough

Rehearsals are coming to a close for MIHS’s production of Shakespeare Abridged. The cast has spent many long hours in the drama room, rehearsing and perfecting every detail of this show. One would think that such a comedic rendition of Shakespeare wouldn’t need as much preparation compared to other shows MIHS has done in the past, but its completely the opposite. The guys’ energy is constantly at bay and not to mention their running on and off stage to do quick changes that are ridiculously fast. I find myself cringing a lot of the times in rehearsal at the imaginable chaos that is going on when they are off stage. Aside from all the chaos and bumps and bruises that have occurred in past rehearsals, the show has come to shape itself into a real gem that will sure to have the audience laughing.  come and see Shakespeare Abridged this weekend January 31st – February 2nd, I can ensure that you will not be disappointed and hey, you might learn a little Shakespeare while you are at it.   Get your tickets here!
