Did you know that there are an estimated 2,135 homeless children here in Brevard County?
We are saddened by this statistic and as our own community is so wonderful in helping us grow as a theatre department we want to give back to our community and help aid in hopefully diminishing this statistic. Every year our spring musical picks a community based charity that we can help by donating a percentage of ticket sales to, and this year the cast of How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying is proud to support the Brevard Rescue Mission!
The Brevard Rescue Mission works to permanently break the cycle of homelessness in families by providing women with children housing, access to health care, transportation, education, nutrition, job training and life skills. The 12-24 month program is designed to lovingly transform families from dependency to self-sufficiency through daily accountability, personal responsibility and goal advancement.
Not only will we be donating a percentage of our tickets, but we will also be running a special fundraiser throughout the show weekend, to hopefully raise even more money for this very deserving charity. With their approach of providing “hands on help, versus handouts” we are excited to help them reach their goals through programs and courses that help enable life-defining opportunities for women, mothers and children. This includes everything from GED and etiquette tutoring to basic money management and educational training. We felt that what they do to help our community is the perfect fit for our show, although How to Succeed is a satire on working hard, we wanted to turn the tables and give to those who were teaching others to respectfully work hard, how to thrive in their jobs, creating healthy and happy families and prospering in their daily lives.
Thank you to all who have supported the MIHS Theatre Arts Department, we have a wonderful community and if we can give even a little back, we will! Please join us April 15-April 17 for an amazing show and the opportunity to help those in our own community!
We are so proud of these three girls, Kayla, Jewell and Elise, for being invited to go to New York City through a program called Connect NYC hosted by The Viera Studio for the Performing Arts. Connect NYC is a private audition experience held in the heart of New York City. It is an elite meeting of actors, models, singers and dancers who perform for NY’s top fashion agents, print agents, TV/Film agents and Broadway scouts. Congrats girls!! Watch out New York City the Island representation is coming!
How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying Auditions will be on
Jan. 20 and Jan 21. Students must be at both auditions.
On the 20th we will be doing a dance workshop from 2:30-3:30, this is not mandatory, but very helpful for the dance audition, and then from 3:30- till we need you, we will have the vocal auditions.
All pieces of music can be picked up in the drama room, please pick up the piece or pieces that are designated for the character you are interested in trying for. If you are not wanting a lead role and just want to be in the chorus or a dancer you will sing a section from the opening number.
On the 21st we will be holding the acting, dancing and vocal call back auditions from 3:30- till we need you.
There is also a parent/student contract and audition form that needs to be filled out before you come to the audition.
The audition dance will soon be uploaded for students to learn from and we will let you know as soon as it gets done.
